Search Procedures
The search procedures for the next CEO of the Calgary Public Library will involve three concurrent phases:
1. Stakeholder Consultations
Time invested up front truly pays dividends. We greatly value the input and perspective of both internal and external Calgary Public Library stakeholders in response to the candidate criteria. The Search Committee and Search Consultants will seek stakeholder input using a variety of outreach methods. This feedback will be used to create a Position and Candidate Profile for candidate assessment.

2. Identification of Candidates
Concurrent to the consultation process, the Search Consultants will identify organizations where people would have gained the leadership experience relevant to the role of CEO. Confidential outreach to individuals within these organizations will commence and will aim to both solicit interest on the part of possible candidates and to determine their suitability in order to encourage formal candidacy when appropriate. Included in this outreach will be referrals of candidates whose names have emerged from the stakeholder consultation process.
The position will be advertised nationally and internationally. The advertising will also encourage interested applicants to engage in the search process.
3. Evaluation and Decision
The Search Consultants will conduct initial interviews with potential candidates and then present these backgrounds confidentially to the Search Committee. This allows the Committee to review the background of potential candidates, and their fit as candidates for the CEO selection. After review and discussion against the criteria, the Committee will select a short-list group of candidates for formal Committee interviews.
Following the interview process, the finalist candidate(s) will undergo thorough reference and background checks. Additional meetings and presentations will also take place during this time. The Search Committee will then make their candidate recommendation to the Board for approval and advancement to a job offer.
The goal for the completion of the search and selection process is Summer 2013.
