Overview

ESL Conversation Club is designed for new Canadians with intermediate conversation skills to practice their English speaking and listening skills in small groups. Volunteers guide participants through interesting conversational topics such as travel, food, shopping and career searching skills.

Program Goals

Provide a comfortable and safe environment to practice speaking and listening in English

Foster independent learning skills

Provide an enjoyable social setting

Increase awareness and use of library resources and services


Length

Fall/Winter/Spring

2 hour program

6 weekly sessions


Volunteer Qualifications

Fluent in English

Strong facilitation skills

Active listening skills

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to work with a diverse population, with a variety of skill levels


Volunteer Responsibilities

Attend an orientation and training session

Commit to all dates of the program

Create a supportive, fun and enriching environment


Training

A one hour training session covering program materials as well as the roles and responsibilities of being a Calgary Public Library Volunteer
