Career Coaching (Adult Opportunity, 18+)
Overview
The Career Coaching Program is a drop in program that provides assistance in career development to our customers. Volunteers with a strong background in Human Resources and or Career Planning will help customers with job searching, resume writing, interview preparation and cover letters.
Program Goals
Career Coaching is designed:
- To provide individuals with knowledge and assistance in career planning
- To provide information on career trends and job market
- To provide easy access to information on career development
- To increase awareness and use of library resources, services and programs
Length of the program
Volunteers usually come in once a week, or once every second week, at one of the following locations
- Central Library (Thursdays, 6:00 pm to 7:45pm)
- Crowfoot (Saturdays, 10:15 am to 12:15 pm)
- Shawnessy (Saturday, 11:00 am to 1 pm)
- Village Square (Thursdays, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm)
Volunteer Qualifications
- Fluent in English
- Human Resources/Career Planning background preferred
- Strong facilitation skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to accommodate a diversity of backgrounds and skill levels
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Help participants with career development
- Commit to participate in the program for a minimum of one year
- Contact library staff if you are unable to attend a scheduled session
- Respect confidentiality
Training
- There is no formal training; however, a one-one-one introduction to the program, program contents, and responsibilities as a Calgary Public Library Volunteer is conducted.
