Judge a Book by its Cover

by Alexandra May - 0 Comment(s)

Have you ever pulled a book off a shelf because of a catchy title or a quirky cover? As a librarian I see hundreds of books a day, but sometimes one just screams out “read me!” It might be one of the many off-the-wall Young Adult titles that grabs me, like The earth, my butt, and other big round things; King Dork; Angus, thongs and full-frontal snogging; or One of those hideous books where the mother dies. Other times it’s because of a particularly intriguing cover, like Uglies by Scott Westerfield, Twilight by Stephanie Meyers or Spanking Shakespeare by Jake Wizner (also a great title). I've found some real gems on the basis of first impression. Contrary to the popular expression, sometimes it pays to judge a book by its cover! So why not visit the your local branch of the Calgary Public Library, and take some time to wander our shelves? Your next favourite book might just find you!

What are some of your favourite Young Adult covers and titles? We'd love to hear about them!

The time has finally come! Twilight, the movie based on your favourite Stephanie Meyer's series is opening in theatres at midnight on November 21st. Do you have your tickets?

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie. How did it compare to the book? Did it live up to the hype? Was Robert Pattinson beautiful and hunky enough to play Edward?

Oh no! It’s due tomorrow!
