ESL Teen Talk is an awesome program at the Library for ESL teens from 10 - 14 years old. It's a fun and casual place to practice your English conversation skills.

There are NO tests and NO grades - just lots of fun games and activities! You may even win some prizes.

Write Now is a teen writing conference, which is held just once a year. There will be pizza and awesome prizes!

This year, three professional authors will be joining us:

  • Naomi Lewis - Novelist & Ghostwriter (this session sponsored by the WGA)
  • Barbara Scott - Author & Editor
  • Ethan Cole - Playwright

This event is free, and you don't have to register - just be there! Join us at Fish Creek Library on November 28, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

There are hundreds of jobs listed, so you're sure to find something that suits you. Jobs are for ages 15 - 24, and each one has a FAQ about the company you'd be working for.

Jobs include: nannies, retail, program coordinator for a theatre company, and lifeguards (hopefully you won't ignore the kids like the girl in the picture).

This Halloween season, we will be hosting vintage horror movie nights!

Teen Read Week @ the Movies is a fun new event - come watch The Haunting with your friends. This is the classic 1963 version, so don't expect blood and guts, but prepare to be scared! Haunting DVD

Space is limited at every location, except the spacious Library Theatre at Central. Screenings are at:

  • Country Hills - Oct 19 7:00 - 8:30 pm

Reading with Child

Do you need some volunteer hours for school? Do you want to help cute littlies learn how to read? You can do that at the Library!

We need:

Reading Buddies volunteers for Bowness Library

  • Mondays 4:30 - 6:00 pm
  • October 5 to December 7

Reading Buddies volunteers for Forest Lawn Library

  • Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30 pm
  • October 8 to December 10

And for the tech-savvy, try Computer Buddies. In this program, you will help students in Grades 1 to 6 learn to safely navigate the Internet and get creative with Microsoft Office.

Read All Summer

You may be aware of the Calgary Co-op Summer Reading Adventure, but did you know that the Calgary Public Library has a summer reading contest for adults too?

The Just for Adults - Read All Summer contest is a great way to get the most out your summer reading. Every two weeks a new reading activity will be released with a challenge to explore something a little different, whether it be a biography, a novel by a Canadian author, or an audiobook.

When you've completed the activity you can return your ballot to any Calgary Public Library location to enter our draw for weekly prizes.

Next time you visit the Library be sure to pick up the latest reading activity and spend the summer reading with us!

Gaming at the Library???

If you enjoy games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero or Wii sports, you're welcome to drop by the library to test your skills and challenge other teens at these and other great games. This free program is open to ages 13 - 17 this summer at Calgary Public Library branches all over the the city. If this sounds like your kind of library program than be sure to drop by The Central Library on Saturday, May 2nd from 2:00 - 3:30 pm for an early preview as the Library celebrates Youth Week.
