FOREST LAWN
LIBRARY COMMUNITY LITERACY AND
LEARNING CENTRE
The Forest Lawn Community Literacy and Learning Centre (CLLC)
supports literacy and acts as a community-gathering place
connecting individuals and families to the literacy and lifelong
learning resources that will assist them. The Centre
promotes library use within the community and contributes to the
quality of life of community residents. Partnerships have
been formed with many agencies in order to deliver a diversity
of literacy and community programming.
The Centre is a place offering innovative
programs in:
- Preschool and family literacy
- Literacy and lifelong learning for all ages
- ESL and immigrant support
- Parenting skills
- Employment readiness programs
- Technology access and learning
- Multicultural programs that maintain language and cultural
traditions
- Community forums, discussions, dialogues, events and
celebrations
- Special community events such as: Author readings, Canada
Day celebrations, citizenship events
These services will support:
- Preschool children and their families
- Individuals with literacy and learning needs
- Youth
- Adults
- Seniors
- Individuals who wish to upgrade their education levels
- Unemployed and underemployed individuals
- New Canadians
- Aboriginal peoples
The Forest Lawn Library Community Literacy and Learning Centre has been made possible
by a Community Facility Enhancement Grant (CFEP) (August 2003)
and was strongly supported by local aldermen and community
partners. Library staff, and volunteers plus community partners
develop, deliver and evaluate these programs and services.
