LITERACY PROGRAMS

Reading Buddies
This program pairs struggling readers in grades 1-3 with teen volunteers. Under the direction of library staff the group meets at the library over an 8-week period where they read one-on-one and participate in fun group activities. For more information on how to volunteer or refer someone to the program, call 260-2709 or 221-2062.

Read With Me/ Read ‘n Roll
These more intensive support programs match struggling readers in grades 1-6 with an adult volunteer coach. Together the pair follows a reading plan; meeting in their closest library once a week. Participants are normally referred by classroom teachers. Support for these programs is provided by Raise a Reader. For more information, call 260-2710.

Computer Buddies
Teen volunteers help young children in grades 1-6 explore computers at the library. Participants develop life-long learning skills while improving their reading, writing and math skills - using technology. For more information on how to volunteer or refer someone to the program, call 221-2036.

Reading Advantage
This one-on-one literacy coaching program is for adults who are comfortable with spoken English and want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Participants are matched with volunteers and meet for 2 hours, once a week in any of the 17 library locations. For more information on how to volunteer or refer someone to the program, call 260-2729.
