The
Children's Songbook Index is the Calgary
Public Library's answer to easily
locating children's songs in our book
collections.
The
Children's Songbook Index is an Internet
accessible resource of individual song
titles found in the book collections and
anthologies currently available here at
the Calgary Public Library. The
index includes almost 15,000 song title
listings.
Some
types of material included are:
- common
children's songs
- traditional
songs
- rhymes
in song
- holiday
songs
- children's
hymns
- folk
songs
A wide
variety of books are included, from
large thematic anthologies like Best
Children's Songs Ever, containing
hundreds of songs with music and lyrics,
to picture books based on a single song
or rhyme like Three Blind Mice,
featuring lyrics and/or music in them.
Youth
Services staff began the Children's
Songbook Index in 1988 to help find
specific song titles commonly requested
by customers in our book collections.
Once you
locate a book title you want to see, the
next step is to check in the Library
catalogue (WebPac) to determine which of
the Calgary Public Library's 16 branches
has the book. The Library
catalogue also shows whether or not the
book is checked in and, if it is checked
out, is the way to place a hold.
