Barb Howard: 2013 Writer in Residence

Barb Howard’s most recent book of fiction is a collection of short stories called Western Taxidermy which won the Canadian Authors Association (Alberta Branch) 2012 Exporting Alberta Award and is one of three finalists in the short story category at the 2013 High Plains Books Awards (winners to be announced in October). In the nonfiction realm, Barb is a contributor to, and co-editor (with Joan Dixon) of, the 2012 nonfiction anthology Embedded on the Home Front: Where Military and Civilian Lives Converge.
Barb is also the author of the novel Whipstock, the novella Notes for Monday, the young adult book The Dewpoint Show, and dozens of published short stories and articles. A former lawyer, Barb now teaches creative writing through various centers and schools including U of C Continuing Education.
Inspired, distracted, and often obsessed by outdoor pursuits, Barb Howard lives in Bragg Creek, Alberta.
