How'd it go?

It's hard to believe but summer is over...and that means Youth Read is too. We'd love to hear what you thought about the challenges, website, and prizes so that we can make it even better next year! Please take a few minutes and give us:

your feedback

Youth Read is finished, but the fun doesn't have to end - you can still show us your creative side with Teens Create, tell us what you're reading for our Teen Picks list, and keep an eye on the Teen Zone Blog for future challenges and contests.

Week 9: The End

This is the perfect time to go back and make sure you have at least one entry from each week! That means at least one from Week 1, at least one from Week 2, and so on right up to (and including) this week. All entries must be in by August 31st to qualify for the grand prize draws.

KatOxymoronic, Roxy Doodlebug, Carter A Sieben, Green, Lauren, & lilskell - you have all won draws in the last few weeks but we're having a hard time contacting you - please email us at to claim your prizes!

Challenge 1: Photoshopped

Just like this! Some of you have already created some pretty hilarious pictures for Youth Read this year, but we'd like to REALLY see your skills. Here are your options:

1. Use a photo (from the Public Domain, not one of yourself or any other minors under 18) and alter it so that it is suddenly an advertisement for the Calgary Public Library.

2. Pop a picture of someone into a different, totally unexpected picture (again, this can't be a picture of you or anyone you know).

Challenge 2: Summer Scenes

What’s your favourite thing about summer? Draw us a picture, take a photo, or just tell us about the very best summer moments of your life.

Challenge 3: Cool Schools

I know you don't want to think about it, but the school year is almost upon us. Fiction is full of unusual schools offering strange subjects…ever wished you could take Transfiguration at Hogwarts, sing your heart out at McKinley High, or study Advanced Encryption at the Gallagher Academy? Summer is almost over but daydream a little longer and tell us - what subject do you wish they taught at your school?

bonus prizeChallenge 4: Read!

Bonus Prize Challenge! Complete this challenge for a chance to win a Kobo mini e-reader.

The school year is almost here – so hurry up and read something fun before you have to return to your textbooks! But don't weigh your backpack down - grab a free e-book from the library through our Overdrive or Freading services. Try one of these books featuring schools more interesting than yours:

If you choose this as your option, just select "Reading hours" as your submission type on the contest submission form.

When you're ready, submit your challenges using the link at the side or click here.
